Bone Grafting in Kamloops, BC

Dental implants require healthy, stable bone to succeed. When a tooth is lost, the jaw in that area no longer receives stimulation—leading to gradual bone loss over time. Bone grafting restores that foundation, making implant treatment possible.

Do I Need a Bone Graft?

You may need a bone graft if:

  • A tooth has been missing for an extended period
  • Bone loss has already occurred
  • You’ve experienced gum disease or trauma
  • There are natural or developmental deficiencies in the jaw

In many cases, a graft can be placed at the time of tooth extraction to prevent future bone loss.

How Bone Grafting Works

A bone graft uses either:

  • A synthetic material, or
  • A small amount of your own bone

The graft is placed in the area where bone is needed. Over time, your body naturally heals around it—creating new, healthy bone.

Preparing for Dental Implants

  • The grafted area typically heals over several months
  • Once the bone is strong enough, dental implants can be placed
  • In some cases, a minor graft and implant can be done at the same time

This process creates a stable, long-term foundation for your new tooth.

Comfort & Recovery

Bone grafting is a routine, predictable procedure that typically involves minimal discomfort.

Our team will provide clear instructions and support you throughout the healing process.

Types of Anaesthesia

We offer anaesthesia options to keep you as comfortable as possible during your surgical procedure.

Local Anaesthesia

Lidocaine is injected through a needle and temporarily numbs a small area, preventing nerves from communicating pain sensations to the brain. Patients remain awake and do not feel pain during treatment.

IV Sedation

IV procedural sedation puts the patient into a sleep-like state. Our team of doctors, Registered Nurses and surgical assistants closely monitors all vital signs throughout treatment, and the patient will remain comfortable until the procedure is over. Patients must have an adult remain at the clinic during the procedure and take them home after the surgery.
